Trouble with Tribbles

So... My sister found an article about how to make these really CUTE yarn toys. We've been making them while my mom's up in Michigan. (Okay, so I took a break from writing this and it's now the second day she's back! :P lol) So anyhow, I'm not sure where she found it, but I'll give the tutorial to you. These are awesome crafts to set your little 'ones' doing, whether they're siblings or your kids! This is SUPER CUTE!

Aren't they sweet?!

Lemme see ya' kid!

So... to start with, you need a piece of cardboard, at least 1'x1', a skein of yarn, scissors, super glue, and eyes that you can get in the craft aisle of dollar tree! :) Super easy to make!

So, to begin with, cut a semicircle out of your cardboard, half the size you want your tribble. (These are called tribbles because of the Star Trek Original Series episod, "Trouble with Tribbles") These things look exact! lol Anyways, cut the semicircle exactly half the size you want your tribble. Then on the flat side of your semicircle, cut another semicircle in the exacst middle. This is to allow the yarn to loop. Take an end of your yarn (no cutting any yarn yet!) and start wrapping it around the form. Don't wrap it tight, leave some room. After you've wrapped it thickly, cut the yarn at the skein end. Now take a length of yarn 6" long and thread it under the yarn at the flat side and above the cardboard. Tie it together VERY tightly, but don't snap the yarn. Now take your scissors and along the arced side, cut the yarn directly over the ridge of the cardboard. Take the cardboard off, fluff the yarn to turn it into a ball and take the eyes and glue them on wherever you wish, at the roots of the yarn! Voila- a tribble!

These make super great, easy, and cute Christmas or Birthday presents! Just make them in the person's favorite color! I know what I'll be working on this November! Wow, prolly around 24 of these things! lol

A Sad Farewell

Goodbye to my second oldest brother who left for Michigan today to go to college. He's been the best brother I could have- I've told him all my secrets. Ever since I was little, he's been the one I've played with the most. He helped me with all my interests, and always explained things to me. Now that he's gone, I'll definitely miss him. I'm sure he'll have fun up in Michigan and I certainly wish him lots of luck. I know he'll do his best and make me proud.

I love you, Ashton! Have fun and God be with you and bless you! :*)

Silk and Sales

So... I'm sure you have all been thinking that I have - fallen off the face of the planet! NOT SO!!!!!! I am still here and very much here! I've been planning a picnic with some friends, and also attempting a silk hat... That's not coming out so good! :P

My wool dress will be coming along soon, I hope! Either this week or next week I should be able to get some cotton for the lining, perhaps not, but I'm hoping!

So... I don't really have any pictures of the hat because it's so bad! I found out I made it too small, so I'm going to have to re-cut everything! I hope I can figure this out! So, if I have any troubles, I'll post them here and the SA and see what folks can help me with. :) My friends are so helpful! I love you guys! xD

Anyhow, now that I have finally actually finished my site! *roll eyes* I have it up and running and I hope some folks will drop in and have a look. There's an Opening Sale right now, and everything (your entire purchase) is 15% off!

I'm hoping to make money off my sewing to help fund my projects. So... don't forget to tell your friends! This is really a break for you and them, because my prices are already lower than most Civil War clothing suppliers! So this is a chance to save LOADS of money on birthdays and Christmas presents! Or maybe just because you need a new dress or suit or waistcoat or whatever! Anyhow, advertise for me if you can, and I hope to hear from some folks! Don't forget... 15% off on YOUR ENTIRE PURCHASE between now and Sep. 30th

Have fun and hope you have a nice day!

God Bless!

Music

Alright, I'll be getting my muslin soon, just a little update.. At first, I could only play guitar using tab *Yikes* Now, I can read music and I'm starting to learn songs that were popular during the 1800's! I'm excited! Today, during my music time, I took a music book and read all the notes out aloud! I could do it! It was fun. I also practiced my Spanish guitar and some of my English guitar songs. Right now, I'm learning Scarborough Fair.. It's pretty easy. So... Just a little update for everyone, I haven't fallen off the planet! I'm still here... and I'm still ready to talk your ear off! lol

Wacky Writer

So, during my down time of sewing, I thought I might mention my historic novel writing craze! lol xD I LOVE writing historic fiction! I've already written one book and been told by a publisher that they will consider it for future publication! I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was!

However, after reading a deeply researched book... (Woman of Valour by Stephen Oates.) By the way I'm not even halfway through it! I discovered that I had not interpreted the war correctly...

That being said, I am now writing a new book from a different angle of the war. My first was a nurse in the Union.... She was originally from Virginia, then her parents die and she moves to Nebraska to live with her uncle and cousin, then the war comes and her ranch is raided and the Yankees come and drive the raiders away... Anyhow, she goes through a lot of the war, I didn't make it anywhere NEAR realistic, or graphic. It was really just the "Oh look! A reenactment! Let's go!" effect! haha!

Now, I've been reading about the bad medicine, the terrible side effects, the freezing, the blown away limbs! I didn't do our forefathers justice. So... I guess if they publish my first book "Sissy Johnson" it will be a tamed down Civil War book for little kids that would be horrified if they read anything too graphic.

Sissy ends up marrying... well, comment and tell me that you want me to tell you, if you want to know! lol

SO! My new book is about a girl in the Confederacy who's still got her family. This is going to be challenging AND interesting to write. There's starvation, separation, slave trouble, changing military control, poverty...

And YES this DID have something to do with sewing room tales, cause my sewing room quadruples as my music room, writing area, bedroom, and sewing room! lol xD

I'll write a post about my music interests prolly sometime soon... BEFORE I get my muslin! Something to keep readers around! lol

Well, I hope you enjoy all these spoilers, and don't forget to check out my site! Bespoke By Ruth

Derailed

Uh-oh my train derailed! I have to wait to get a bolt of muslin before I can finish my wool dress. You see, I messed up while I cut out my lining so now I have to make new lining.

This means that I have taken out ALL the piping that took me SO long to sew on! This also means I had to rip out all the seams! So after I've got the muslin, I have to completely re-sew EVERYTHING ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!! *time to freak out* lolk

So... that's why I'm not finished yet. So... I'll try to get some muslin as soon as I can! I hope I have some greater news soon!
